Ronald Koeman to return as national coach after World Cup?
Two years after he quit to take the reins at Barcelona, Ronald Koeman is currently contemplating to once again lead the national team after the upcoming World Cup Qatar 2022. The KNVB stated that they are in talks with Koeman to replace Louis van Gaal when he steps down in December.
Koeman, 54, has been out of work since his early departure from Barcelona back in October 2021 and Dutch media state he has already started to put together a team to take over in December.
Koeman was the national coach between 2018 and 2020 and he managed to take the team to the Euro 2020 qualifications, the first finals tournament in 6 years for the Dutch team. He claims to have said he has “unfinished business” with the national team as the Euro 2020 was postponed due to the Corona virus.
National team captain Virgil van Dijk was enthusiastic about the prospect of working with Koeman again and said that if Koeman is think about joining, he should be in the top of all potential candidates.
