Kevin Magnussen, 29 year old Danish driver is preparing for the first Formula 1 race of the year at Bahrain International Circuit.
A few weeks ago, Kevin didn’t even think about driving a F1 car as he made his last appearance in Abu Dhabi, all the way back in December 2020. Kevin is replacing the former Haas driver Nikita Mazepin who have had a turbulent time in the team complaining loudly about the car and being unfairly treated by having a worse car than team-mate Mick Schumacher. Mazepin´s father, Dmitry Mazepin, owner of the main sponsor, Russian fertilizer company Uralkali, was recently put on the EU sanction list together with other Russian business owners as well as Nikita Mazepin as well.
Considering Dmitry´s threat to the Haas team in the last season of the Netflix series Drive to Survive, angry about his son not performing as well as expected and blaming the team and the car, maybe it was good that the American owned Haas team decided to remove both the sponsor and the driver for the 2022 season.
Kevin Magnussen has not wasted any time and soared to the top of the timetable after the pre-season testing in Bahrain.
