Missile attack during F1 practice!

A missile hit a building in the vicinity of the Formula One track in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia during the F1 practice yesterday.

According to AP this was an attack on an oil reserve facility by the Houthi rebels. “The racing weekend will continue as planned” the Saudi racing organisation communicated stated according to TT.

Ferrari´s Charles Leclerc seems to have kept his speed from the opening race of the season which he won ahead of his teammate Carlos Sainz. The 24 year old was fastest of all drivers during practise on Friday. But all focus turned to a big cloud of black smoke raising towards the sky close to the track and several drivers commented on the fire.

-Is my car on fire? asked Max Verstappen on his radio to his team. – We are happy to inform you it is not from your car. responded racing engineer Gianpiero Lambiase

According to AP the state-owned oil company ARAMCO was attacked by the Houthi rebels and after the practice all drivers and teams was called to a meeting with F1 boss Stefano Domenicali prior to the second practise run which was delayed 15 minutes.
